Float Tube Derby

Dateline: April 21, 2007
Castaic Lagoon.

34 tubers gathered on this day for the annual Friends of Castaic Lake float tube bass derby.  The weather was perfect for fishing but not catching as only 13 tubers weighed in fish.  Things were so tough that only one limit was weighed in.

Taking first was Eddie Freedman with a limit weighing 11.1 lbs led by the 3rd big fish of the day, coming in at 3.0lbs.  Eddied won a new Creek Company pontoon style float tube, along with $70 big fish money.  Great job Eddie!

Taking second was veteran float tuber and FOCL staff member Mike Iljin with two fish totaling 6.2lbs, led by the event big fish of 5.20lbs.  This got Mike a new float tube along with $170 in big fish money.  Great job Mike!

Taking third was Tim Eggleston with two fish totaling 5.7lbs, led by the 2nd big fish of the derby, weighing in at 3.30lbs.  This gave Tim a new float tube along with big fish money of $105.  Great job Tim!

Thanks to all of those who helped out with this float tube bass derby.  Those included Shelley, Marcia, the Editor, Victor,   and Mike Iljin on the shore, and Grant, Karl, Mike Munson, and Tony Castro and wife in the staff boats.    It was really great to get help from Tony, who came out to help even though is not even a club member, that was cool!

And thanks so much to the sponsors who donated to our cause.  These event are simply not possible without great sponsorship.  Turner’s came up big with their donation of three new float tubes.  Thanks so much to Vlad and Don at the Reseda store and thanks a ton also to Nabo out in Chino.  Great job guys!

Thanks also to Randy at Roboworm, Val at Action Tackle, Craig at J&T Tackle, Gary McNaught of McSpins,,   Grant at Sun Country Marine Castaic, and also to Mike Lander who came through with great product too.  Rochelle and Jeff at Navionics also deserve some special recognition as they donated a map chart program worth $150, which was won by Robert Whitman.  We had so much tackle that no one went home empty handed, including perennial contender Jim McElfresh, who finished 4th and won the $30 J&T Tackle gift certificate.  Thanks guys!

We hope to see all of you next spring at our next events.  We are hoping to have at least two events, with one possibly being at night
