FOCL Bassing for Kids Team
Tournament
Dateline: April, 2008
Castaic Lagoon.
15 teams gathered on this day for
the 2nd annual Friends of Castaic Lake Bassing for
Kids team tournament to benefit the lake's Jr
Lifeguard Program. High winds had plagued the lake for much of the
previous week but on this morning things were calm, with breezy conditions
picking up in the afternoon.
This is an event where many
participants fish with family members or friends they do not normally fish
tournaments with. Taking 1st place on this day was the father and
daughter team of Paul and Crystal Vogler with a four
fish limit weighing 13.38lbs, including the 2nd big fish of the
day, at 4.3lbs. Paul noted that
Troy Lindner and Bill Siemental are a threat to win anytime they hit the water and they came close today as they weighed in four fish totaling 12.7lbs. This gave them 2nd place plaques and winnings of $647. Great job!
Taking 3rd was the veteran team of Jay Poore and John Ed Wilder with another four fish limit weighing 11.15lbs. John had the big fish of the event, weighing in at 4.77 lbs, which swelled their winnings to $781. Great job gentlemen!
Rounding out the top five were Mike
Reese and Dave Wilson in 4th with 10.04lbs, and Michael Stern
and Dan Hoover in 5th, with 6.48lbs. Each of teams
received checks for $52. Also, in 9th place was the father and
son team of Lendon and Anthony Riley with just one
fish, but it was a nice one-4.05lbs, good enough for a 3rd
big fish check of $105!
The big event of the day was the
after tournament chili dog BBQ and raffle. A huge thanks Flo Lawrence for purchasing the food and to Pete Carrasosa and family of the FOCL for hosting this
BBQ! Needless to say, the raffle was a huge success. A huge thanks to all of those who contributed to this
effort. This included Val White of Action Tackle, Roger Larocque of Peregrine Boat spray wax, Randy Yamonouye of Roboworm, John
Barron of the Top Stick Tour, and Ron Cervenka,
who generously donated two great Huddleston Deluxe swimbaits,
and pair of Costa Del Mar Sunglasses valued at over $200!
Including raffle $$, over one thousand dollars was raised to
help support the Jr. Lifeguard program!
A huge
thanks also to everyone who helped out in making this event a smooth operation.
First and foremost, thanks to Mike Iljin, who
not only brought out all the weigh in equipment but also did all
the computer work. Thanks to the staff boat of Mike Munson and
Marcia Thompson, who helped out with pre tournament sign ups and post event paperwork. Thanks to Karl Kratzer
for checking in boats afterwards, to
Michael Jones for manning the gate in the morning, and to Dave Baltes for helping out with livewell
checks and for helping with the raffle. We hope everyone had a great
time and we will see you out here again next year!
