Explore more than 7 miles of scenic multi-use trails at Castaic Lake Recreation Area. Whether you’re hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, trail running, or bird watching, you’ll find routes that wind through rolling hills, scenic overlooks, and beautiful views of Upper Castaic Lake.

The trail system is open year-round (except December 25) from sunrise to sunset and welcomes visitors of all experience levels. Before heading out, check the Castaic Lake calendar for current operating hours, seasonal changes, and any event-related closures.

Located near the northwest corner of the West Launch Ramp, beyond Lifeguard Headquarters.

Before You Hit the Trail

Help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit by planning ahead.

  • Bring plenty of drinking water.

  • Wear appropriate footwear and clothing.

  • Hike or ride with a friend whenever possible.

  • Carry a fully charged cell phone.

  • Check current weather and wind conditions before heading out.

  • Be aware of park hours and allow enough time to return before closing.

  • Vehicles remaining in the park after closing may be cited.

Please help protect Castaic Lake’s natural resources and ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience.

  • Stay on designated trails.

  • Respect wildlife and native plants.

  • Pack out all trash.

  • Yield courteously to other trail users.

  • Keep pets on a leash and clean up after them.

  • Wear a helmet when biking.

  • Follow all posted signs and closures.
